Emma Louise Dawn

What do you do when your dog,
who is more than 16 years old,
who you've had since before your first child,
who you rescued from the pound after only one look,
who annoyed you with her incessant hound-dog howl
and her never-ending shedding of German Shepherd fur,
who earned a middle name for being naughty
enough to eat a feather pillow
and a favorite book
and a hand-knit baby blanket,
and the first birthday cake of your second child,
who smiles with her pink tongue slightly hanging out,
bad breath aside,
who loves you with her cloudy brown eyes and hangydown ears and soft velvet nose and would never expect anything but true love and utter loyalty for all the love and loyalty she gave you,
has cancer?

  1. You just love her as you have done since she was a puppy. Give her a big hug from Nana. Thinking of each of you and especially Miss Emma.
