EmmaLemmaLimaBean.
The smell is worthy of a name like cancer.
There it is. See it?
It hangs out of her lip.
Slings itself around like a
dagger.
Slings itself around like a
dagger.
It's gone to a lymph node on the same side.
That one feels like a pebble beneath her furry self.
And yet she still wags her tail
and begs for food
and yelps to go outside.
She sleeps a lot.
And she follows us from room to room
whenever she is awake.
She hangs out near Ein's cat food bowl
waiting for him to finish so she can scarf down the leftovers.
As if we didn't already feed her.
Oh, God, help us to know when she's not comfortable anymore.
Help us to know when it's time
for her to join Ellie and Candie and Harvey.
And even Dylan.
Help us all to be ready
for the day
when she will overcome.
for the day
when she will overcome.

Love Miss Emma. Please tell her and also tell her I am sorry Dylan, Brandee, Hokie and Scooter scared her. She's such a funny girl, afraid of her own shadow. She never learned to love our furkids like Ellie did. She's just a sweet lady with the softest fur ever and her Aunt Shell really loved her.
ReplyDeleteOh Mom, Shell did love her so much. She felt sorry for Emma because it was so obvious that EllieBelly ruled. Shell always loved the underdogs. Emma's hanging on. But we don't expect much more with the spreading. We do feel blessed that we've had her forever.
ReplyDeleteThis is so hard. I remember when we were in the same place with our 17 year old dog. The heartbreak and struggle were so much more than I ever imagined. Praying for peace for you all
